bal raj sahni was a famous hindi film actor.He belonged toa punjabi khatri family from bhera which is now in pakistan.He was born on 1st may 1913,in rawalpindi.He was a versatile actor the world knew him as a celebrated actor.He was abrother of famous writer,playwright and actor bishm sahni.in his starting days he worked as a radio announcer inb.b.c london hindi service.

Sahni was always interested in acting and started his acting career with the plays of IPTA(Indian people s Theatre Association)

He started his film career with the film Insaaf(1946) followed by dharti ke lal.In 1953 with bimal roys classic muvie do bigha zameen was the muvie when his true acting skills were recognized by the people.The film won the international prize at the cannes film festival.His acting was appreciated in all his films.he worked with top heroines like padmini,meena kumari,nutan,nargis in films like :

sone ki chidiyan(1958)

sutta bazar(1959)

bhabhi ki chudiyaan(1961)

ghar sansar(1958)

He is perhaps remebered among the youth now a days for the picturisation of the legendary song “ae meri zohrazabeen” from the movie waqt.
